Our Experience with Florida Social Security and SSI Disability Cases

I began representing individuals with SSI disability claims in 1974, the very first year the federal program started. Since 1979, I have been a frequent lecturer for the National Organization of Social Security Claimant Representatives (NOSSCR), the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), the Florida State Guardianship Association and the Florida Bar’s Continuing Legal Education programs in the areas of Social Security disability, SSI, Special Needs Trusts, guardianship, and legal and financial planning for disabled children and adults. I am a Charter Member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners.
As part of my practice I have authored and presented in-service training on administration of Special Needs Trusts to trust officers of some of the country’s largest banks. I am the co-author, with my partner, Marjorie Wolasky, of the 90-page chapter on “Special Needs Trusts” in the Florida Bar’s Lexis/Nexus CLE publication, Administration of Trusts in Florida (6th edition, 2010). I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Colombia, South America, for two years, and a full-time volunteer in the VISTA program, the domestic Peace Corps, for one year working with migrant farmworker families in Laredo, Texas. Thereafter, I spent seven years in Legal Services programs in New Jersey and Florida, including two years as Executive Director of Florida Rural Legal Services.
I graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1966 with a degree in Political Behavior, and the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1972. I speak English and Spanish.
Jessica Lillesand
I concentrate my practice in Social Security Disability (SSDI and SSI), Medicaid Planning, Guardianship, Estate Planning, Probate and Trust Administration and Elder Law. I received my J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Florida Law School in 2008. I received my B.A. from Duke University in 2003 where I was on the Dean’s list. While in law school, I was an extern at the Office of the State Attorney, 8th Circuit, Domestic Violence Division in Gainesville and an intern at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, The Hague, The Netherlands.
I am a member of the Florida Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association, the Clearwater Bar Association, the National Organization of Social Security Claims Representatives (NOSSCR), and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA).
